What is Workers Compensation?
Workers’ compensation is a form of insurance payment to employees if they are injured at work or become sick due to their work.
Workers’ compensation can cover:

Payments to workers to cover their wages while they’re not fit for work
If a worker is killed at work, workers’ compensation insurance provides for:
Death entitlements
Dependant payments
Funeral expenses
Who can access workers’ compensation?
All workers in the ACT are eligible to receive workers’ compensation. Workers are anyone contracted for service through an employment contract, either written or verbal.
For the purposes of workers’ compensation, workers include casuals and regular contractors who are employed on a regular and systematic basis.
What if my employer doesn’t have workers’ compensation insurance?
Every worker in the ACT is eligible for workers’ compensation. This means that if your employer doesn’t have workers’ compensation insurance, you can access it through the ACT Government’s Default Insurance Fund (DIF).
